At SEC Newgate Australia, we are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information responsibly. This privacy policy outlines how our Engage team collects, uses, stores, and shares personal information as part of our community and stakeholder engagement activities.

SEC Newgate Engage, a division of SEC Newgate Pty Ltd (ABN #38 162 366 056) (“SEC Newgate Engage”) respects and upholds your rights in adherence to the Australian Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (“Privacy Act”).

Who SEC Newgate Engage are

SEC Newgate’s Engage team supports public and private sector organisations to engage with communities, stakeholders, and the broader public through consultation, feedback, and communication initiatives.

We conduct consultation activities such as:

  • Strategy preparation
  • Community outreach
  • Stakeholder briefings and interviews
  • Workshops and other community events
  • Online or face-to-face engagement
  • Analysing public submissions
  • Community investment planning
  • Optioneering and project assessment

Why we collect, hold, use personal information

We collect, hold and use your personal information to support meaningful and respectful engagement or consultation with stakeholders and communities. This includes:

  • Understanding your interests, views and concerns about a project or issue
  • Ensuring diverse voices are heard and considered in decision-making
  • Informing our clients (such as government agencies or private organisations) through feedback summaries and reports
  • Providing stakeholders and community members with updates or outcomes of the engagement
  • Managing logistics for consultation sessions or events

We only collect information that is necessary for the purpose of the engagement, and we handle information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Depending on the nature of the engagement, we may collect:

  • Name and contact details (e.g. email, phone number)
  • Organisation or community group affiliation
  • Opinions, feedback or submissions you provide

We only collect personal information that is necessary for meaningful engagement, and we will always explain why we are collecting it, and what we intend to do with it.

At any point in undertaking engagement with us, you can choose not to answer any of our questions or to give us any details related to your personal and/or sensitive information.

How SEC Newgate Engage collects your information

We may collect your information when you:

  • Register to attend an event or session with us or our clients
  • Complete a feedback form or survey, including through third party online platforms
  • Participate in interviews or discussions
  • Subscribe to updates or newsletters
  • Communicate with us directly

On occasion we use specialist Research Panel Recruitment organisations who hold data on participants under strict Privacy adherence.

How SEC Newgate Engage uses your information

We use your information to:

  • Understand community and stakeholder views
  • Inform the decisions being made – project planning or policy development – by our clients and and any other relevant stakeholders involved in the project
  • Prepare reports for our clients
  • Communicate updates or outcomes back to stakeholders or community members (if requested)

We will not use your personal information for marketing or unrelated purposes.

How SEC Newgate Engage stores and protects your information

Your information is stored securely on Australian-based systems with access restricted to authorised staff. We take reasonable steps to:

  • Protect against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access
  • Destroy or de-identify information when no longer needed

Disclosure to third parties

We may share summaries or findings with our clients, such as government agencies or project sponsors. Generally this information lists the stakeholder groups consulted, and lists the range of ideas/issues raised. It may be important to understand the views of a particular stakeholder group.

Individual participant feedback is de-identified in analysis and reporting.

Your identifiable information will only be shared with your consent, or where required by law.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate or outdated information
  • Withdraw your consent for us to use your information
  • Make a complaint about how your information/data has been handled

If we do agree, we will advise what (if any) action we consider it appropriate to take in response. Miscellaneous

In this policy “personal information” has the same meaning as under the Privacy Act.

This policy has been effective from 5/8/2025, with the latest update to the policy published on 5/8/2025. We may change this policy from time to time. Although we intend to observe this Privacy Policy at all times, it is not legally binding on SEC Newgate Engage in any way. From time to time we may regard it as necessary or desirable to act outside the policy. SEC Newgate Engage may do so, subject only to any other applicable contractual rights you have and any statutory rights you have under the Privacy Act or other applicable legislation.
